M.A.D. Cat is an secondary antagonist of Inspector Gadget. He is Dr. Claw's fat pet cat who schemes with him.

Etymology[]

He is named after M.A.D., the organization run by his owner, and his species, a cat.

Personality[]

M.A.D. Cat is another way to reinforce the emotions of his owner Dr. Claw. When Claw is pleased, he snickers or laughs along with him, or for him. If Dr. Claw is annoyed and pounds his desk, he follows through with his terrible yowl. In one episode Do Unto Udders, M.A.D. Cat was ready for it and glued Claw’s fist to his desk to get him to stop.

He is Brain's arch-nemesis as well. M.A.D. Cat also has a small doll of Inspector Gadget (character), which he "claws" at.

While Dr. Claw is fond and caring towards his pet, he can also be quite abusive with him and bullies M.A.D. Cat when the latter annoys him or in a fit of anger due to his schemes being foiled. Despite this, M.A.D. Cat always forgives Claw (usually by the next scene), and whenever Claw makes his getaway he never leaves M.A.D. Cat behind. This is most notably shown in Quimby Exchange when he became frozen to Claw’s desk forcing him to tear the frozen cat off as he left.

Appearance[]

M.A.D. Cat is obese and has dark gray fur with black and white stripes, a white patch on the tip of his tail, and yellow eyes. In Gadget and the Gadgetinis, he is dark gray, has black stripes, and a brown-ish mouth and fatter. In the films, he is female, white and slim.

Trivia[]

  • In the CGI series and live action films, M.A.D. Cat is a female, unlike the other appearances which have M.A.D. Cat as a male.
  • He seems to be able to understand English quite well because in "Launch Time," he takes instructions from Dr. Claw and operates the controls of the M.A.D. Mobile (firing a missile).
  • M.A.D. Cat appears in the live-action movies as a white Persian cat. Both films feature him as a female.
  • His Polish name is Szalejot.
